DIY: Streamer Garland by Marilyn

With the leftover streamers from one of our recent DIY party idea projects, I decided to reuse the streamer material to make another party DIY project. We truly believe in being resourceful with the things we own, and find it to be both good to our environment and good to our wallet when we aim to take advantage of our resources. You might be amazed at some of things you don't need to purchase for your next do-it-yourself project. Of course every now and then there are some essentials you will need to purchase, but even then, you can sometimes find these things at the thrift store (i.e. old picture frames for a photo frame revamp or DIY jewelry organizer frame). For your next DIY project, we challenge you to see how much of the materials you can find in your own home before going out and purchasing more material. You may find that this also inspires you to be more creative with the materials you use and how you can make the project 'your own' by using alternatives.

Follow the steps below to create this fun streamer garland for your next party or photoshoot! Photos read from left to right, then top to bottom.

Gather your materials: You will need scissors, tape, twine or yarn, and cray paper streamers.

I tried doing wider widths for the tassel part of the garland and skinnier widths as well. My personal pick is the the skinnier tassel. I feel this one flows better and looks better. I will explain how to do both ways.

First organize your streamers into groups of 10 and cut 2 feet in length for each set. Tape in 3 places: top, bottom, and middle.

For a wider tassel, you will cut each group right down the center (so that there will only be two bundles from the one set).

For a skinnier tassel, you will cut twice long ways down each bundle (so that each bundle will create three once they are cut).

For each cut bundle, you will grab in the middle and twist the bundle around your twine or yarn a few times. With the wider bundle, you might have to tape it after twisting so that it stays in place.

Space the tassel bundles evenly on the twine or yarn and hang for your next party or photo shoot and enjoy!

  2. Too cute. I'm in need of some fun decorating ideas like this because in 2 weeks I'm moving from a nice office into a cubicle with another work mate! I'm going to have to make our new digs look snazzy.
